The 4.1 Desktop LiveCD seems to miss the NSS module to resolve hostnames via Zeroconf/mDNS -- http://sisyphus.ru/srpm/Sisyphus/nss-mdns . But this would be a very handy thing in a LiveCD: to connect to an ad-hoc network, and to address other hosts by their names, which they advertise through zeroconf. The expected scenario is described in https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18291 ; this feature has two sides: in order to be tested on ALTLinux LiveCDs, https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18291 should also be fixed: ALTLinux systems (incl. LiveCDs) should also respond to mDNS queries and advertise their given hostnames.
This module (libnss-mdns) turnes out to require avahi-daemon; so this feature request essentially means a request for a full-scale zeroconf/mdns /... support. Then also having the graphical expolorer for the discovered services would be nice: kdenetwork-kdnssd.
At this moment at LiveCD: > cat nsswitch.conf | grep hosts hosts: files nisplus nis mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 rpm -qf /etc/nsswitch.conf glibc-core-2.9-alt5 In system installed: libnss-mdns-0.10-alt2 (from SRPM package: nss-mdns). We can not include kdenetwork-kdnssd to LiveCD. Because it requires kdelibs from KDE3. We use KDE4 for branch 5.0. It's no such free space on 700Mb CD-media to put both KDE3 & KDE4. rpm -qpR kdenetwork-kdnssd-3.5.10-alt3.i586.rpm kdelibs >= 3.5.10-alt3 kdenetwork-common = 3.5.10-alt3 avahi-daemon libnss-mdns rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) libkdecore.so.4(CXX3) libkdnssd.so.1 libkio.so.4 libqt-mt.so.3(CXX3) libstdc++.so.6(CXXABI_1.3) libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4) rtld(GNU_HASH) rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.2-1 May I close this bug ?
